Fábiánné Fellegi, Anna

Fábiánné Fellegi, Anna

Member of the orchestra since September 2012. Besides the BDO, she performs in different pop bands as a singer or a violinist.
Her favourite composers are Bach, Mozart, Bartók and many others. She cannot pick a favourite composition. It is easy for her to find the moment in a current piece which becomes her favourite.

She got her aptitude for music from her parents.  Her mother was a violin teacher, her father a photographer.  She was directed to this profession by a love for music and a sense of beauty inherited from her parents. She lives with her husband in Budapest, they have been married for 8 years. Their son, Huba turns 4 in November.

I find the cultivation of human relations very important, I try to spend as much time with my family and friends as it’s possible. In my free time I usually sing. It has been my desire and joy for a long time, and I try to improve myself in this area as well. The act of creation makes me really happy.  My other hobby consists in doing buns for weddings and for other special occasions.
In the BDO I have the possibility to work with fantastic artists, the repertoire is versatile, the community is good, and every concert is a huge experience for me. I’m pleased to be a member of a highly professional orchestra like this.
On the occasion of our 25th anniversary I hope everybody recognizes the healing power of music in the rushing world and feels the need for relaxation, for beauty and for the mystical moments that lives in music, because the soul needs it.”

Second violin

Bajmóczi, Tünde

Bajmóczi, Tünde

Member of the orchestra since 1996. She cannot pick one favourite composer as she has many of them.

“I like the diversity in music maybe that is the reason why I feel good in BDO. Our repertoire is quite wide, and I can still face new tasks and challenges after more than two decades spent here. We play pieces from a lot of contemporary composers, among which my favourite is Levente Gyöngyösi. I also love playing here because Gábor Hollerung is a really inspiring person, he conducts in a comprehensive way, and his approach to music is close to mine. The professionalism and well preparedness make the shared work much easier as well.”

Second violin

Bánhegyi, Tünde

Bánhegyi, Tünde (princpial second violin)

She has been a member of our orchestra since 2009, and she has been one of the second violin section’s principal since 2013. She also teaches, performs with her quartet, the Color Quartet in many concerts. She works as a performer, and as a substitute musician for other orchestras.
Her favourite composers are Bach, Verdi and Puccini.
Her favourite composition: Requiem by Verdi

“Besides the BDO, I’ve played in many orchestras but none of them had this good, intimate atmosphere which is characteristic of us: despite the amount of work and the overstressed state, we always help and support each other, and even in the most challenging moments we can inspire each other. It is mainly thanks to our conductor, Gábor Hollerung who did his best, with long years of undiminished work and devotion, to make this orchestra one of the high-standard musical ensemble of Budapest, giving sold-out concerts.

Although he pushes us too hard, besides the steady pace, from time to time he gives space to joy and humour, and we can turn to him personally.
What do I wish for the orchestra? Many memorable and high-quality concerts, cheerful rehearsals, enthusiastic audiences, famous guest artists, lot of fantastic tours. And of course I wish to keep up this team spirit that works so well that even the substitute musicians have noticed it. It would be great to be able to play together with the same faith, energy and joy and to retire from here…”

Véghelyi, Márk

Véghelyi, Márk

Official member of the orchestra since 2001 but he has been playing with us regularly since 1997.

Favourite composers: Händel and Mozart

Favourite composition: Händel’s Israel in Egypt and Mozart’s piano concertos

With his wife Kata they have two daughters, Anna and Dóra.

Influenced by a kindergarten teacher who accompanied children’s singing by playing the violin at celebrations, Márk began his violin lessons at the age of five. His father, a flute teacher, had no choice but to take him to a colleague, a violin teacher. Márk was a high school student (at Buda High School, formerly Táncsics) when he first sang at the Academy of Music, Budapest in the Choir of Budapest High School Students, at the predecessor of today’s Let the Country Sing initiative, conducted by Gábor Hollerung.

‘I love playing here because my two best friends also work here. And the programmes are really diverse. What else can I wish for on the 25th anniversary (in 2018 – the ed.) than to be able to celebrate the 50th together in 25 years from now.’

Szilágyi-Gárdián, Rita

Szilágyi-Gárdián, Rita

Member of the orchestra since 2009.

Favourite composer: Bach

She and her husband, Péter Szilágyi are both members of the first violin section. Their son, Benedek also seems to adore the violin.

All of Rita’s family members are musicians, her mother and sister play the violin and her father is a cellist. Chamber music is a very important part of her life, be it a string quartet, chamber orchestra or any other arrangement.

‘It’s great joy to play here together with my husband. I wish many more 25-year jubilees for the orchestra, high spirits, true companionship, a countless number of concerts and intensive rehearsals.’

His lovely wife, Rita is also a violinist in our orchestra, and they are parents to a son, Benedek.

‘In my kindergarten years I tried to turn my sand scoop into a violin, and as a professional musician I would sometimes do quite the opposite now, but I consider my being a musician to be God’s amazing gift. Few people have the good fortune of working together with their spouse and best friends.’

First violins

Sawada, Aya

Sawada, Aya

Member of the orchestra since September 2009, Aya is also a teacher of Japanese language giving private lessons.

Aya’s parents live in Japan, while she resides in Hungary with her partner and son.

She grew up in the embrace of classical music as her parents who played in an amateur orchestra for a long time loved listening to classical music. It was at that time that she became fond of Háry János. ‘Maybe that’s why twenty years later I found myself moving to Hungary…’

‘I love working here because we play not only opera and classical music but a lot of other genres as well. My birthday wish for the orchestra upon its 25th anniversary is to encounter a truly unique musical experience.’

First violin

Sass, Magdolna

Sass, Magdolna

Member of the orchestra since 2000 but even before that, already since 1992 she had been a regular temporary player. She participated in the concert held in celebration of the Dohnányi Orchestra becoming an official professional ensemble.

Magdolna was born in Orosháza. Her good ear for pitch was discovered when she was only 5 years old. She started her musical studies in the local music school as a cellist and when she turned seven she switched to violin. At the age of 13 she was already preparing for a career in music with a scholarship at the preparatory department of Liszt Ferenc College of Music in Szeged. The courses she took with Professor Ferenc Halász encouraged her to enrol in the Academy of Music, Budapest where she successfully passed the entrance exam in 1991. She was a student under Professor Géza Kapás and maestros György Konrád, Márta Gulyás, László Kóté, Ferenc Kertész, András Mihály, András Batta, László Vikár and József Újfalussy, to name just a few. Since graduating Summa cum laude in 1996, she has improved her skills at numerous courses and postgraduate seminars. Since childhood she has preferred playing in an orchestra, nonetheless, she played solo on several occasions both in Hungary and abroad and gave a solo recital in Budapest. Between 1995 and 1999 she regularly took part in the International Bartók Seminar in Szombathely to enhance her abilities as a viola player. She had the opportunity to work, among others, with Valéria Szervánszky, György Kurtág and László Tihanyi. As a viola soloist she performed in several countries of Europe, and in 2013 she played the solo accompanied by Dohnányi Orchestra.

‘For me, the most important bonding factors with BDO are the excellent collegiality and friendship among members as well as Gábor Hollerung’s extensive knowledge and remarkable ability to hold this community together.’
