Márfi, Eszter

Márfi, Eszter

Eszter has been a member of our orchestra since 2018.

She grew up in a family of musicians, and  gained proficiency in different musical genres at an early age due to her parents’ openness to music (her mother is a music teacher and a vocal coach, her father is a clarinet artist and works at the radio). Thanks to this, she was a regular in the studio, where she could freely pick from among the finest of records by Brahms, Phil Collins and Pat Metheny from the stuffed CD racks.

This is also the reason why, in addition to playing the flute, she engages in improvisations in electronic music in the Baroque – contemporary ensemble of the Recurring Company.

Her favourite composers are Rameau, Prokofiev and Bartók; her favourite pieces are the piano concertos of Prokofjev and Bartók.

‘In the orchestra, it is a tremendous experience to feel the professional and human cohesion of the community, formed into a great unity by Gábor’s hands. I am grateful to be a member of this team, and I will do my best to pass on the values conveyed by BDO.’

Hegyi, Gábor

Hegyi, Gábor

Gábor was a member of the orchestra between 2009 and 2014, then he joined us again in 2018. When not playing in Dohnányi Orchestra he is a bass trombonist in the Szent István Király Symphony Orchestra and teaches at Szent István Király Music Secondary School and Music Elementary School.

Gábor is the proud father of a wonderful boy.

He has several favourite composers including J.S. Bach, G.F. Händel, W.A. Mozart, M.P. Mussorgsky, G. Gershwin and Frigyes Hidas, and a lot of beloved compositions, too. Pieces he enjoys both playing and listening to are M.P. Mussorgsky – M. Ravel: Pictures at an Exhibition and G. Gershwin: An American in Paris.

He repairs cars as a hobby and he is an avid collector of old timers.

‘Dohnányi Orchestra is my second home. This is where my career started, where I grew up, where I first met my wife. I established life-long friendships here. After a great many „twists and turns” in my life I finally returned. What else would you call it than home?’

Trombone

Réman, Zsófia

Réman, Zsófia

Zsófia has been a member of our orchestra since 2018. Apart from BDO, she plays in the flute quartet Flautett, and in the chamber ensemble UMZE.

She grew up in a family of musicians: her parents are members of Cluj-Napoca ensembles, his brothers are also musicians, and together with members of the extended family they could make up a smaller orchestra. Naturally, she too was attracted to this world from a very young age.

Her favourite composers are J. S. Bach, A. Jolivet and W. A. Mozart.

‘Ever since I started playing the flute, my greatest pleasure has been playing in an orchestra and I take much delight in doing it on a daily basis. I learn a lot in BDO, both about profession and community. I like the homely, friendly atmosphere, and that we can always make space for some humour in the room.’

Flute

Tóth, Péter

Tóth, Péter

Member of our orchestra since January 2016. Besides the BDO, he works in the Madach Theatre, he teaches in the Primary Art School of Martonvásár, and he also plays at Zuglo Philharmonics Budapest and at the Miserium band.

His favourite composer: Gustav Mahler

His favourite composition: Mahler’s Symphony No.2

„I love working here because there is a family atmosphere in the workplace, on the rehearsals and among the colleagues, who are mutually flexible and sympathetic. We perform colourful and enjoyable programmes that are interesting not only to the audience but to the participants as well. I wish the orchestra to have more success and to get working conditions and allowance that an orchestra is worthy of. I’d welcome international tours as well.”
