Borbély, Linda

Borbély, Linda

Linda has been working at BDO since October 2018. And she has been a member of Budapest Academic Choral Society (also led by Gábor Hollerung) for quite a few years now.

Her favourite composer is Mozart, her favourite piece is Haydn: The Creation.

“I like working at BDO because there is a good community here and everyone can achieve their personal fulfilment.”

Varga, Ágnes

Varga, Ágnes

Ágnes has been working at the orchestra since 2014. She works in the organisation of the very versatile activities of the orchestra and Gábor Hollerung.

She graduated in cultural management and later became a teacher of Spanish as a foreign language, too.

Most of her free time is spent singing at Budapest Academic Choral Society. As a singer she likes the music of Bach and Handel best.

“And why do I like working here? It feels really good to spend your working time in an inspirational, creative atmosphere and to contribute to the realisation of some excellent performances and concerts. May the orchestra always have the power and enthusiasm it takes to keep this good work up.”

Turcsányi, Ildikó

Turcsányi, Ildikó

Ildikó has been working at the orchestra since 1995. Basically, she has been working with us all her adult life.

Her favourite composer: right now the top names of her list are Bartók, Stravinsky, Strauss and Mozart.
Her favourite piece of music is different every week but there are some fixed points, e.g.  Bluebeard’s Castle, Don Giovanni, Sheherezade, Salome.

She has three sons.

“I like working here because of the bohemianism, the brainstorms, the diversity, the humane manners, the immense amount of music and free parking.
You can probably do better as well, but we are trying to do our best.”

Ortutay, Réka

Ortutay, Réka

Réka has been a member of our orchestra since 2008, but she has been the one to prepare the publications of the orchestra since the ‘90-ies. She is one of the founders and currently the layout editor of our orchestra’s PR magazine, Hangoló (“Tuner”).

Her obvious choice for a favourite composer is Mozart.
Her favourite pieces: everything by Mozart, and Vivaldi’s concertos. As a choir singer she prefers old music and the choral works of Bach, Handel and Mendelssohn. And of course Levente Gyöngyösi’s first symphony, dedicated to the orchestra, is very dear to her as its première was one of the most inspired events in BDO’s history.

She first graduated as a teacher of German as a foreign language at ELTE (Eötvös Loránd University, Budapest – the tr.), then got a layout and image editor’s diploma from MÚOSZ (National Association of Hungarian Journalists – the tr.), and then she graduated as a Chinese medicinal and junior spinal therapist at ShenNong Institute.

Already as a child she developed a strong affection for music because of the opera season ticket she shared with her grandmother and mother. At the age of 10 she started to play the guitar but at 15 she made her first contact with Gábor Hollerung’s choir and got instantly sucked in. It’s been a continuous, unfailing love story between her and music ever since.

“Dohnányi Orchestra is a great love! Although sometimes work is nerve wrecking and we have faced many desperate financial situations, there are also those legendary concerts like A Hero’s Life by Strauss or Symphony No. 1 by Gyöngyösi that swipe all such troubles away. I really like working here because I come home here every day, and thanks to Boss’ trust in me, apart from doing the usual administrative tasks, occasionally I can also try my hand at being a film editor or script writer. We are like a big family: we do a lot of brainstorming together and we also realise the best of our ideas. And the musicians always go beyond our expectations.
May we have many more inspired concerts and much joy in our work. I wish that the present inspirational atmosphere should remain with us and that BDO should once be given the moral and financial appreciation it deserves.”

Ódor, Lajos

Ódor, Lajos

Lajos has been working at the orchestra since 2011.

He doesn’t have a favourite composer.

His favourite piece of music is Dubrovay: Piano concerto no. 3.

His original qualifications are administrational economist, financial economist and welfare officer.

He lives a quiet life with his life companion; he has two children and – for now – two grandchildren.

He deems the following thoughts of Olivér Berkes important: “Everyone – independent of their mothertongue, birth place or culture of origin – can understand the language of music since it is composed of rhythms and sounds that bring out emotions from all of us. Thus, it is a wondrous conveying tool of a message.”

“I feel being cared about at BDO! By the time I hit home in the evening, I am completely exhausted after all the statistics, bank transfers and drilling and carving. Musicians, however, know how
