On 18 November there will be a celebration of singing together at the Liszt Academy of Music. Although the numbers aren’t exactly round – as in 2023, the Budapest Academic Choral Society is 66 years old, and the choir’s conductor, Gábor Hollerung, has been directing the amateur ensemble for 43 years – the anniversary celebrations have been cancelled due to Covid and the hard times it brought along. Current and former members of the choir will be singing together a monumental a cappella piece, Kodály’s Jesus and the Traders, which was often performed by the choir in the 1980s especially, followed by one of the most important works in the oratorio literature, Mozart’s Mass in C minor.
